005 GERMANY - Cologne Cathedral (WHS)

The cathedral of Cologne is known as the town's landmark since the Cathedral is the third highest religious building in the world (157m). The cathedral is only around 250 meters of the Rhine away. This building is a perfect example of the gothic architectural style.

This cathedral was built over more than 400 years, starting the 15th of August, 1248 and finished in 1880. The architect Gerhard von Rile took the example of Cathedral of Amiens, but he changed his plans. It is a UNESCO site since 1998 because it is masterpiece of gothic architecture.
